The average Indian vegetarian eats 45–55g protein daily through dal-roti-sabzi. For muscle gain, you need 1.6–2.2g per kg of bodyweight. For 70kg, that's 112–154g — nearly double what most Indians eat.

The Science Behind Our Calculators
Our protein calculator uses IDA (Indian Dietetic Association) and ICMR 2026 guidelines combined with evidence-based sports nutrition research. The calorie calculator uses Mifflin-St Jeor with optional Katch-McArdle when body fat % is known. BMI uses WHO Asia-Pacific cut-offs for Indian body types — which are 2–3 points lower than Western standards.
Soya Chunks — India's Secret Muscle Food
Soya chunks (meal maker, textured vegetable protein) contain 52g protein per 100g dry weight — more than chicken breast at ₹15–18 per 100g. Combined with paneer (18g/100g), sattu (8g/30g at ₹5), and 2 cups dal (28g at ₹15), a 70kg vegetarian can hit 100g+ protein for under ₹60/day.
